Report an incident or concern

Available now

Student wellbeing is hugely important for schools, and at Epraise it's our primary focus this year. It's absolutely vital that students feel safe and supported and we think we can help, through updates to existing functionality and some new features arriving later this year.

Our report an incident or concern feature is a hugely beneficial way for schools to extend the support they can offer students beyond the classroom, by giving students a way to reach out when they have a concern relating to themselves or a fellow student. We've been working on a number of improvements to this feature, including anonymous reporting, the ability for staff to add reports directly, and a new overview.

Anonymous reporting allows students to feel more comfortable reporting incidents or concerns. It adds a simple checkbox to the end of the form that students can check if they wish to remain anonymous. This will hide their name from staff when viewing the report. This ability is not enabled by default, but can be turned on or off within your site settings at any time.

Staff can now add reports directly within Epraise. This is useful for when a student has reported an incident or concern to a member of staff in person, and that staff member needs to log the issue directly. This can be done from the main list view. Note this is only currently available for members of staff with access to this view.

Finally, a new overview will allow you to gain some deeper insights into the reports that have been made. Analyse the issues by status, type, location, time or any of our student indicators. By highlighting trends and patterns, we hope this will help schools to identify and address issues more effectively.

Writeback

Available now

Writeback is complicated, but we want to make it feel easy. Over the last few months, we've added a number of big improvements to things behind the scenes to make writeback more reliable for schools, such as the splitting of invalid batches and better collision resolution.

Schools can also now attempt to re-try writebacks manually, which can be really useful if a batch has failed for a reason that is now resolved. We've also added a clean-up feature to remove failed writebacks that are no longer needed, so the writeback status page should be much less cluttered.

International support

Available now

We've continued to put a lot of work into supporting schools beyond the UK. This includes the US and Australia in particular, but we continue to extend support for things such as time zones and currencies for schools in places such as Peru.

Recently, we've extended support for our PDF certificate generators to include non-Latin characters. This means that schools in countries such as China can now generate certificates with their students' names on them.

We've also improved the detection of international names for group names and added international group naming support to our apps.

Veracross integration

Available now

We've recently added support for Behaviour incidents for Veracross schools. This means that you can now view Veracross-created points and demerits directly within Epraise. We've also added support for preferred names, so that students can be referred to by their preferred name in Epraise.

Other notable improvements

Available now

As always, we've been working on a long list of smaller incremental improvements - here are some examples:

  • All files are now stored in AWS rather than Rackspace for improved reliability and performance
  • MIS link syncs can now only be run once at a time, resulting in improved performance
  • Added a new "Demerits by subject", "Activities attendance by activity" and "Activities attendance by student" exports
  • Increased the file limit for documents
  • Added teacher names to classnotes
  • Updated the category selectors on points and demerits
  • Loads more!

Onboarding changes

Coming soon

In order to ensure that Epraise continues to follow security best-practices, we'll be removing the ability to mass-update passwords via CSV files. We know this has been useful to schools in the past, however now that we have our student password generator we feel that this is a more secure way to manage student passwords.

As part of these changes, we will be improving our student password generator further, to allow schools to generate passwords by year group, with the option to reset existing passwords at the same time. We'll also be adding a password suggestions tool to the user add/edit pages of the website.

Finally, we'll also be improving our invite functionality, allowing you to send invites more frequently, making onboarding and re-onboarding much easier.

Report an incident or concern

Coming soon

Although this update already mentions a number of improvements to our report a concern functionality, we have even bigger things currently in development. We're going to be introducing a brand new user experience, which will include detailed case notes and teacher assignment - we're really excited about this and can't wait to show you more soon.

Veracross integration

Coming soon

We're continuing to work on loads of exciting new updates for Veracross customers. We'll soon be releasing student alert syncs, so these will now show up on seating plans, data sheets, overviews and exports. We're also soon going to be adding further information to the student profiles including attendance and contact details.
